King Of The Hammers Race Day 2012

Race day is today for King of the Hammers. King of the Hammers is the toughest one-day off-road races. It started with 12 teams racing and the prize was a case of beer and bragging rights. There are now 150 teams and each February in Johnson Valley a town of campers and tents pops up called Hammer Town.

Women Are Better Driver Than Men…….

Maybe This Is Why Women Are Better Drivers Then Men... Because Even When Men Wreck They Think Somehow It Could Be Manly........

A study by 4autoinsurancequote.org found that yes women are better drivers than men.
It compared traffic violations, auto accidents and insurance price statistics between male and female drivers and the data shows:

Women are 27 percent less likely to be an auto accident than men.
Men are more likely to get citations for reckless driving, speeding and failure to yield
Insurance for men is also higher as well. A male driver will pay $765 for the average six-month policy while a female driver will pay $698.
Men take more risk….(see picture above)

We will have to revisit this study in a couple of years to see if thing change because this study also states that as distraction make their way into the drive seats that women may not be the better driver. Also as in an earlier blog of Fanucci Auto Body “ What Career Gets In More Accidents” it could be that more men have careers in these fields.

Google Testing Cars That Drive Themselves in San Jose and Santa Cruz Area

Google has tested a car that drives itself in traffic on 140,000 miles of California road, from Silicon Valley to Santa Monica. I guess that when we did our article on “ What Careers Get in More Accidents” we should have had a number 11 to include Google.

The article “Google Is Testing Cars That Drive Themselves” says they had two people in the car during the test. The article states the biggest benefit would be “Google would be the hour or so of daily commute time the car owner would save. Instead of driving, he or she could either be productive or entertained in the vehicle, doing work on a wireless Internet connection or watching television. Google doesn’t say it explicitly, but TechCrunch was quick to note that this time could be spent using Google products and absorbing Google-run advertising. Here is a video of a test car.

They also talk about the safety concern and that is the main reason Google took on this project. They feel that they can reduce the fatal accidents by almost half. For now all of you highway 17 commuters will have to drive yourself but just think before you retire you may have a car that will take you where ever you want to go. Quality Planning Corp collected statistics and found the top ten professions that have been involved in a collision and need auto body repair or who have gotten a ticket. I found the statics on Edmunds Forum called “Top Ten Careers For Crashing and Burning” Some of them like Doctor and Real Estate Broker don’t surprise me because Doctors are driving back in for emergencies and Real Estate Brokers are driving and looking for house all the time, but I wouldn’t have thought that architects or analysts would be that high.

1. Doctors - average 109 accidents and 44 speeding tickets, landing them at the top of the list.

2. Lawyers - average 106 accidents and 37 speeding tickets.

Step 1: In the Estimate Process area the vehicle is inspected and relevant data is entered into estimate computer systems. This data is compiled into an estimate that determines the cost of repairs. However, often there is hidden damage that can not be seen until after the vehicle is disassembled.

Step 2: Once the estimate is completed, the insurance company will review the estimate. There may be some negotiations on the price and procedures required to repair the vehicle. The insurance company will determine if the vehicle is even repairable. Once this process is completed, the vehicle begins the actual repair process.

Step 3: In Disassembly hidden damage is often found, and inner structure repairs are determined. Many times this will require scheduling insurance re-inspection and ordering additional parts.

Step 4: The required parts for your vehicle are ordered, and availability is checked. If a part needs to be special ordered, the order will be placed as soon as possible. Although many parts may arrive very quickly, the repair process can not begin until the shop receives all of the structural parts.

Step 5: In the Structure Repair area, the unitized body is returned back to the factory specification. A sophisticated measuring system is used to monitor all phases in this area. A computer based
measurement system is used to analyze the frame of your vehicle. This system assures an accurate repair.

Step 6: The Body Repair Department replaces exterior panels, and all metal finishing that may be required. The vehicle begins to come back to life as sheet metal is installed and aligned. From here the vehicle will go to the paint preparations department.

Step 7: Paint Preparation is a critical step in the refinishing process of every vehicle. All panels are prepared for paint, then primed and sealed to assure good adhesion when the final top color and clear coats of paint are applied.

Step 8: Final moldings and detail pieces are put back on the vehicle in the reassembly area. All the vehicle's systems are checked during this process. The vehicle is almost complete and ready for delivery when it is in this stage.

Step 9: During the repair process the vehicle accumulates dust from the repairs. It will be cleaned. It will also be road tested to ensure that everything is working properly. A final inspection will assure that the vehicle is restored to it's pre-accident condition.

Step 10: Delivery is the last step in the repair process. When the customer arrives to pick up the vehicle, the bill is explained and the final paper work is completed. The customer drives away in the vehicle that has been restored to it's pre accident condition.
